Delhi Capitals saw Kolkata Knight Riders score 272 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday in their home fixture in Visakhapatnam. They eventually lost by a staggering 106 runs . If that mauling wasn’t enough, DC and their captain Rishabh Pant have been handed heavy fines by the BCCI for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
DC were found to have maintained a slow over rate for the second match in a row in IPL 2024. Their second over rate offence qualifies as a Code of Conduct breach and punishment has been handed out accordingly.
“Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on April 3,” BCCI said in a release.
Pant was fined Rs 24 lakhs while other members of the Delhi playing XI, including the Impact Player (Abishek Porel), were either fined Rs 6 lakhs or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lesser.
“As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pant was fined INR 24 lakhs. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 lakhs or 25 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”
DC were found guilty of maintaining a slow over rate against Chennai Super Kings in their previous outing on Sunday. Following that contest, Pant was fined Rs 12 lakhs alongside fines for individual players.
Impact Shorts
More ShortsThe match itself was completely one-sided with Sunil Narine scoring a career-best 85 runs while teenager Angkrish Raghuvanshi impressed with a 27-ball 54 on IPL debut. KKR posted 272/7 at the end , just five runs short of SRH’s biggest IPL total just a week ago.
Delhi Capitals never looked to be in the chase. They crumbled under pressure and quickly lost four wickets. Pant (55) and Tristan Stubbs (54) struck fifties to salvage some pride but it was a lost cause.
KKR have now won three matches in a row and occupy top spot in the IPL standings . Delhi, meanwhile, have one win in four played and are ninth, only slightly better than Mumbai Indians .
