The contest between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday night witnessed a gluttony of runs. In a run-fest, again involving SRH, fans witnessed boundaries aplenty even though it culminated in home side losing once again.

SRH, who had scored the biggest total in IPL history against MI earlier in the season, pushed that envelope further courtesy a century by Travis Head and fifty from Heinrich Klaasen. The duo starred as SRH totalled 287/3 in 20 overs. RCB, stuttering at one stage in the chase, finished at a respectable 262/7 to lose by 25 runs .

A look at the records shattered and milestone registered during RCB vs SRH:

287/3 - Sunrisers Hyderabad posted the highest total in IPL history, bettering the 277/3 they had posted against Mumbai Indians three weeks ago.

2 - SRH’s 287/3 is the second biggest total in men’s T20 cricket. The highest, 314/3, came in a match between Nepal and Mongolia at the Asian Games.

549 - RCB and SRH aggregated 549 runs in the two innings of cricket. It is the most for any T20 match. The previous highest match aggregate for a T20 game was 523 runs between Sunrisers and Mumbai Indians earlier this season in Hyderabad. On that night, SRH scored 277 and MI closed on 246.

22 - SRH batters struck 22 sixes during their stay in the middle. They are the most by any team in an IPL innings. Hyderabad broke the record held by Bengaluru for their 21 sixes against Pune Warriors in 2013.

38 - SRH and RCB batters hit 38 sixes in Bengaluru - the joint-most in any T20 match, equalling the record set by Hyderabad and Mumbai earlier this season.

81 - SRH and RCB batters struck 81 boundaries, also the joint-most for a T20 match, equalling the record by South Africa and West Indies in 2023.

262/7 - Despite scoring 262/7, RCB fell short in their chase. It is the highest total in a losing cause in T20 cricket. The previous highest was 258/5 by West Indies against South Africa in 2023.

39 - Travis Head took just 39 balls for his century. It is the fourth-fastest ton in IPL history. Chris Gayle’s 30-ball century, also in Bengaluru, in 2013 against Pune Warriors remains the fastest-ever.

Head’s 39-ball century is the fastest for Sunrisers Hyderabad, bettering David Warner’s 43-ball blitz against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2017.

1 - Before SRH, no team had scored multiple 250-plus totals in the IPL. And then RCB joined them in the act. Surrey (3), Yorkshire (2), Czech Republic (2) and Somerset (2) are the other teams with multiple 250-plus totals in T20 cricket.

4 - All four of RCB seamers went for 50-plus runs in their overs - Reece Topley (68), Yash Dayal (51), Lockie Ferguson (52) and Vijaykumar Vyshak (64). It is the first instance of four players going for 50-plus runs in the same innings in men’s T20 cricket. In the IPL, no more than two bowlers had conceded 50-plus runs in the same innings. Until RCB vs SRH on Monday night.

4 - There were four fifty-plus partnerships by the SRH, including a century opening wicket stand. It is only the second instance of four fifty-plus stands in a T20 innings. Kolkata Knight Riders had 50-plus stands for the first four wickets in 2008, also against RCB in Bengaluru.

7 - In total, there were seven fifty-plus partnerships in the clash. No T20 match had had more than five 50-plus stands.

76 - SRH hit 76 runs in the powerplay overs which is their third-highest of this IPL season, behind the 81 against MI and 77 against Chennai Super Kings. They are now the first team with three powerplay totals of 75-plus runs in a single IPL season.

15.0 - SRH took 15 overs to reach the 200-run mark. It is the third-quickest 200 runs in the IPL. Sunrisers took 14.4 overs to reach 200 against MI earlier this season. The fastest belongs to RCB who used just 14.1 overs in a 15-over game in 2016 against Kings XI Punjab.
