Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Punjab Kings IPL 2024 toss report: Royal Challegers Bengaluru won the toss and skipper Faf du Plessis invited Punjab Kings to have a bat in the first match of the 17th IPL season at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Both Bengaluru and Punjab opted to retain the playing XIs from their previous fixtures.

RCB will be hoping to bounce back from the six-wicket defeat that they suffered at the hands of defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the season opener in Chennai on Friday.

Bengaluru rode on wicketkeeper-batter Anuj Rawat’s 25-ball 48 as well as handy knocks from Dinesh Karthik (38 not out) and du Plessis (35) to post 173/6. The total, however, would not prove enough for Bengaluru in the end as CSK, riding on handy contributions from debutant Rachin Ravindra (37) and Shivam Dube (34 not out) chased the target down with more than an over to spare.

Punjab too had pulled off a successful chase against Delhi Capitals in the first match of the Saturday double-header, spoiling DC skipper Rishabh Pant’s big return in the process. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh’s economical bowling (2/28) helped PBKS restrict DC to 174/9 before Sam Curran’s 47-ball 63 ensured the Shikhar Dhawan-led side chased the target down with four wickets and as many deliveries to spare.
