R Ashwin entered the 500 Test wickets club with the wicket of Zak Crawley in the third Test against England in Rajkot on Friday. Ashwin is the ninth bowler to take 500 Test wickets and second Indian in this club after Anil Kumble. The 37-year-old best figures in an innings is 7/59, while 13/140 is his best in a match. In fact Ashwin is the second-fastest bowler to 500 wickets, both in terms of matches and balls bowled. Ashwin took 25,715 balls to reach the landmark and is only behind Glenn McGrath who completed the feat in 25,528 balls. He also surpassed Kumble in terms of matches taken to reach 500 Test wickets. Kumble got to 500-club in 105 matches, while Ashwin reached there in 98 games. Only Muttiah Muralitharan is ahead, having done so in 87 Tests.

The list of most Test wickets is led by Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan (800 wickets) followed by Shane Warne (708), James Anderson (695*), Kumble (619), Stuart Broad (604), Glenn McGrath (563), Courtney Walsh (519) and Nathan Lyon (517*).
