Ranji Trophy: Teams, Groups, Format, Live Streaming - All You Need To Know

The participating teams in the Ranji Trophy are divided into four Elite groups and a Plate group.

Ranji Trophy: Teams, Groups, Format, Live Streaming - All You Need To Know

A new season of Indian domestic cricket is set to commence with the Ranji Trophy on 5 January. Similar to the previous editions, a total of 38 teams will compete in the red-ball tournament. The participating teams are divided into four Elite groups and a Plate group. While each of the Elite groups features four teams, the remaining six are placed in the Plate group. The inaugural day of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy will see as many as 16 teams across the Elite and Plate groups begin their campaign. Eyes will be on Bihar and Manipur, who have been promoted to the Elite  group after finishing top of the Plate group last season. Saurashtra are the reigning Ranji Trophy champions . The Jaydev Unadkat-led side triumphed over Bengal in the Ranji Trophy final last season, registering a dominant 9-wicket win. Saurashtra have been placed in Elite Group A alongside strong teams like Vidarbha and Haryana. In their maiden fixture, Saurashtra will take on Jharkhand at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Meanwhile, last season’s runners-up Bengal also have some good competitors like Mumbai, Andra and Assam in Group B. They are slated to play Andra in the opening clash, which will take place at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. Ranji Trophy 2023-24 Groups Elite Group A: Saurashtra, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Vidarbha, Haryana, Services, Manipur Elite Group B: Bengal, Andhra, Mumbai, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Bihar Elite Group C: Karnataka, Punjab, Railways, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Gujarat, Tripura, Chandigarh Elite Group D: Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Baroda, Delhi, Odisha, Pondicherry, Jammu & Kashmir Plate Group: Nagaland, Hyderabad, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh Ranji Trophy 2023-24 Tournament Format Each team from the Elite groups is set to play seven matches during the league stage. The top eight teams from the Elite groups will progress to the knockout stage, which will have four quarter-finals, two semi-finals and a final, scheduled for March 10. The two worst-performing sides among 32 Elite teams will be relegated, featuring in the Plate group of the 2024-25 season. The teams securing the top two places in the Plate group will play as Elites in the next Ranji Trophy.
