Several veteran stars of the Indian cricket team returned to play Ranji Trophy for their respective sides on Thursday in a bid to rediscover their lost touch in red-ball cricket. This comes after the BCCI had urged players to play domestic cricket following India's forgettable Test series against Australia Down Under . The likes of Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja among others turned up for their respective states. Let’s take a quick look at their performances as the sixth round of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season got underway on Thursday:
Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma endured a forgettable outing during Mumbai's match against Jammu & Kashmir . The India captain scored just three runs from 19 deliveries before getting a leading edge to the mid-off fielder off Umar Nazir. Rohit Sharma is in desperate need for runs after a horrendous outing in Australia, where he scored just 31 runs from three matches at an average of 6.20.
Rishabh Pant
Playing his first First-Class match since 2017-18, Rishabh Pant, too, had a day to forget after the Delhi batter was dismissed for just one run by Saurashtra’s Dharmendrasinh Jadeja.
Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill, the Punjab batter, scored just four runs from eight deliveries against Karnataka. Gill was caught behind by Abhilash Shetty as Punjab were all out for 55. Gill, too, was coming off a horrific Test series against Australia, having scored 93 runs from three matches.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal, too, endured the same fate as Shubman Gill after the Mumbai batter was dismissed for four runs off eight balls. Jaiswal was struck LBW by Auqib Nabi in the third over, three overs before Mumbai lost Rohit.
Ravindra Jadeja
Among all those senior India players who turned up on Thursday, only Saurashtra’s Ravindra Jadeja had an impressive day. He finished with figures of 5/66 as Saurashtra saw off Delhi for 188. Jadeja later also scored 38 off 36 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes. Jadeja also became the fourth bowler from Saurashtra to take 200 wickets or more in Ranji Trophy.
