The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowlers put up an inspired display in their IPL 2024 match against Lucknow Super Giants at home, restricting the KL Rahul-led side to 161/7 after skipper Shreyas Iyer opted to field.

Mitchell Starc was the pick of the KKR bowlers with figures of 3/28, the Australian left-arm quick finally making an impact after proving expensive in the first four matches of the season and justifying his record price tag in the process. Senior off-spinner Sunil Narine too played his part in helping the Knight Riders tighten their chokehold on the Super Giants in the middle overs, conceding just 17 runs from four overs and dismissing Ayush Badoni along the way.

It wasn’t just the bowlers though as the Knight Riders were just as electric on the field and pulled off a couple of brilliant catches to complement the disciplined bowling effort.

Ramandeep Singh collected the first of them at backward point after Deepak Hooda steered the ball in his direction with a thick outside edge to become the first of Starc’s three victims on Sunday afternoon.

Ramandeep would later collect a more straightforward catch at deep midwicket to dismiss LSG skipper KL Rahul, who fell for 39 while attempting to pull Andre Russell in front of square.

Kolkata are yet to defeat Lucknow in the IPL, having lost all three previous encounters with the last two ending going right down the wire. LSG had beaten KKR in their second meeting in the 2022 edition by just two runs, and their lone face-off in 2023 was even closer — Lucknow winning by one run.
