India head coach Rahul Dravid for once did not hold back during the trophy celebrations after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup as he let it all out. Dravid, who is known for his calm and composed nature, gave a glimpse of what the seven-run victory over South Africa in the final and winning the ICC title as a coach meant to him as he let out a loud cheer while holding the trophy aloft.

This was also Dravid’s last match as India coach as he has already confirmed that he will be stepping down from the position after the World Cup and interestingly he finished with his first senior World Cup trophy win as well. Dravid never won the World Cup as a player. He was part of the Indian team which reached the 2003 ODI World Cup final but lost to Australia eventually. He captained India in the 2007 ODI World Cup but the team exited from the first stage itself.
He was not a part of the team when India won the World Cup under MS Dhoni in 2011.

The 2024 T20 World Cup win also helped India break their 11-year ICC title jinx.
Talking about the victory, India captain Rohit Sharma credited the cohesiveness in the team and the process for their World Cup win.

“Very hard to sum up what we have been through for the last 3-4 years. We work very hard as a team, lot has gone on behind the scenes. It is not today, it is what we have been doing for the last 3-4 years. We have played lots of high pressure games and come on the wrong side too. But the guys understand what is to be done when the back is against the wall, we stuck together and the guys, all of us really wanted to win this really bad. I am very proud of this bunch of boys to give us the liberty to play the way we want and execute,” he said after the match.
2011 World Cup winner and former opener Gautam Gambhir is widely tipped to replace Dravid as India’s coach.
