A dejected Virat Kohli was consoled by Team India head coach Rahul Dravid after the former India skipper was dismissed for just nine runs during India’s T20 World Cup semi-final against England in Guyana on Thursday. This was Kohli’s fifth single-figure dismissal of this tournament and the 35 year-old has just managed to score 75 runs from seven matches in this edition.

Kohli managed to score just one run off the first six balls after coming out to bat alongside Rohit. In the second ball of the third over, however, Kohli cleared midwicket fence with a flick to bring up his first maximum. That would end up being his only maximum as he was clean bowled a couple of balls later.

The Delhi batter’s highest score in this T20 World Cup is a 28-ball 37 against Bangladesh in a Super 8 Group 1 match. So far, in this tournament, Kohli has endured scores of 1, 4,0, 24, 37, 0 and 9 meaning the right-handed batter has scored double figures just twice. Rohit Sharma (57) and Suryakumar Yadav (47) built a 73-run stand for the third wicket, but the Men in Blue were soon restricted to 124/4 in the 16th over following Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissal. However, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel displayed the rescue act as they forged 24 runs for the seventh wicket to take India to 171/7 from 20 overs.
Earlier, England had won the toss and opted to field. Chris Jordan finished with figures of 3/37 whereas Reece Topley, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer and Adil Rashid picked a wicket each. Liam Livingstone finished wicketless with figures of 0/24.
At the time of writing this report, England were 26/0 after three overs in the run chase with Phil Salt and Jos Buttler having opened the innings.
