Prithvi Shaw likely to miss Ranji Trophy, could come back in IPL 2024: Report

Prithvi Shaw is set to spend some more time away from competitive cricket as he continues to recover from a knee injury he suffered in August last year. Shaw missed Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy due to the injury is not likely to make a return anytime soon, which means he is set to miss ongoing Ranji Trophy 2023-24 for Mumbai as well, reported CricketNext. The news website reported that Shaw is back to batting in nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), but he will not be given clearance to play competitively anytime soon. “Prithvi Shaw has been in the NCA for months now, doing rehab and following all the necessary recovery protocols. It is safe to say that he is batting normally in the nets but is still a bit far from getting clearance to play competitive cricket again. As of now, it looks very unlikely that he will play the Ranji Trophy,” a source told CricketNext. Shaw has been recovering under the guidance of NCA and BCCI ever since injuring his knee. The NCA is not keen on giving him clearance for four-day matches, however, he could have got cleared for a T20 tournament. “It is highly unlikely that NCA will give clearance to play Ranji Trophy directly. No one wants him to have a breakdown after such a long rehab programme so it’s a rather safe approach to have him back in a shorter format. By then there will be enough time to put the body through match simulations and other high-intensity drills,” added the source. Shaw last competitive game was for Northamptonshire in August last year. Now he is expected to play straight for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.
