The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to mark a historic moment as it inaugurates the newly renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore with a grand opening ceremony on 7 February. The event will serve as a curtain-raiser for the upcoming ODI tri-series between Pakistan, New Zealand, and South Africa. The much-anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will officially kick off on 19 February.
The PCB took a record 117 days to complete the renovation work at the Gaddafi Stadium. According to a statement released by the PCB, the stadium features state-of-the-art LED lights, which are brighter. Two large score screens have also been installed along with newly built hospitality boxes. Fans and players will now be able to enjoy upgraded amenities.
Gaddafi Stadium inauguration: What to expect?
The PCB has promised a spectacular celebration, featuring a mix of entertainment and cultural performances . Cricket fans attending the event can look forward to:
•Live musical performances: Renowned Pakistani artists Ali Zafar, Arif Lohar, and Aima Baig are set to take the stage at the ceremony.
•Fireworks and light show: A dazzling display of fireworks and synchronized lights will light up the Lahore stadium.
•Traditional drum performance: A high-energy drum act will add to the celebratory mood, said a PCB statement.
•Prime Minister’s presence: Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, will inaugurate the stadium on Friday.
The event will be free for the general public, with gates opening at 5:30 PM (6:00 PM IST).
Champions Trophy 2025: Venues and preparation
With Pakistan set to host its first ICC event since 1996, the excitement is at an all-time high. Alongside Gaddafi Stadium, Karachi’s National Stadium and Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium have also undergone major upgrades to host Champions Trophy 2025 matches. The venues will be officially handed over to the ICC on 12 February.
