Paras Mhambrey returned to the Mumbai Indians on Wednesday with the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions welcoming him back as bowling coach. Mhambrey was earlier part of India’s support staff led by head coach Rahul Dravid, with his stint as bowling coach with the national team ending with India's triumph in the T20 World Cup in June.
The former India seamer, who played two Tests and three ODIs between 1996 and 1998, returns to the franchise in which he had previously served as assistant coach for a four-year period. MI had won their maiden IPL title in 2013 during that phase and finished runners-up in 2010, besides winning the Champions League T20 twice (2011 and 2013).
Mhambrey’s return to his old IPL franchise comes three days after Mumbai Indians welcomed former Sri Lanka captain and batting legend Mahela Jayawardene back as their head coach . According to a release from the franchise, Mhambrey will be working alongside current bowling coach Lasith Malinga in the Jayawardene-led support staff.

Jayawardene, who had coached MI from 2017 to 2022 during which the side won three IPL titles under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, will take over from the 2025 season with one of his first responsibilities being strategising for the upcoming mega auction.
