Pakistan to sack all foreign coaches after World Cup debacle: Report

There is a lot of turmoil and uncertainty in Pakistan cricket following a disastrous World Cup campaign in India. Pakistan captain Babar Azam’s future as the leader of the side is still unclear and several media reports suggest a major overhaul is looming large over the team. It is being reported that the entire foreign support staff, including head coach Grant Bradburn, team director Mickey Arthur, and batting coach Andrew Puttick, will be asked to leave after the team’s lackluster performance at the 2023 World Cup. To address these concerns, the Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Zaka Ashraf is convening an emergency meeting with former captain Younis Khan to announce the impending decisions. Pakistan cricket team was disappointing in the World Cup as they failed to qualify for the semi-finals after losing five out of nine league games. Such timid performances have prompted the PCB to conduct a comprehensive review. Pakistan’s fifth-place finish on the points table with eight points underscores the team’s struggles. This marks the second consecutive ODI World Cup where Pakistan could not make it beyond the group stages. Once the top-ranked ODI team, Pakistan’s recent failures extend to missing the final of this year’s Asia Cup. They were absolutely mediocre in these multi-nation tournaments. This significant development also comes after Pakistan bowling coach Morne Morkel stepped down from his role. Morkel, along with Arthur, Bradburn, and Puttick, joined Pakistan’s coaching staff earlier this year as part of a reshuffle. While Arthur mostly supported the team remotely to honour his county contract, Morkel and others have been actively involved since June. This will be a major shakeup in Pakistan’s cricket landscape. In the World Cup, Pakistan started with two victories. But they experienced a major downturn when they conceded four successive defeats for the first time in their World Cup history. Their campaign ended with a defeat to defending champions England, sealing their official exit. This was the second consecutive World Cup when they secured a fifth-place finish, with four wins and five losses.
