 "Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq sacked as Pakistan cricket team selectors: Report")
Pakistan have reportedly sacked Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq as selectors after the team’s poor campaign in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Razzaq, who was also a selector for the women’s team, has been relieved from both roles.
Pakistan made an early exit from the 2024 T20 World Cup after losing to India and USA in the group stage.
A report in ESPNCricinfo states that apart from sacking Riaz and Razzaq, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is also planning to reconstitute the selection committee which had seven members. The committee that did not have a chair will soon have a head while the number of selectors could be reduced.
Riaz was initially made chairman of the selection panel by PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi after working under him as caretaker sports minister of Punjab. At that time, Naqvi was the caretaker chief minister of Punjab.
The selection panel was reconstituted only four months back with Riaz demoted from the chief selector post.
The former pacer was also the senior team manager during thd T20 World Cup and is set to lose that post as well.
Another period of instability in PCB is upon us. The country has seen six chief selectors over the last four years.
