Musheer Khan made it a debut to remember in the Duleep Trophy as he scored 181 runs off 373 deliveries for India B on Day 2 of a round-robin stage fixture against India A in Bengaluru on Saturday. Coming in to bat at number three, Musheer kept losing his partners at the other end and India B were once restricted to 94/7.
However, Musheer and Navdeep Saini (56) forged 205 runs for the eighth wicket as India B posted 321 in their first innings. This is also the highest eighth-wicket partnership in Duleep Trophy history.
By scoring 181, the 19 year-old also joined an elite list. He registered the third-highest score by a teenager on Duleep Trophy debut.
South Zone’s Baba Aparajith is on top of this list, having scored 212 against West Zone in 2013. North Zone’s Yash Dull scored 193 against East Zone in 2022, and Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar had begun his Duleep Trophy career with a knock of 159 for West Zone against East Zone in 1991.
The Mumbai cricketer made the headlines earlier this year when he scored 360 runs from seven matches for India in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup. He ended the tournament as the second-highest run scorer, behind India captain Uday Saharan (397 runs).
Musheer was caught by Riyan Parag in the deep off Kuldeep Yadav’s delivery in the 111th over. At the time of writing this report, India A were 57/1 after having lost Shubman Gill for 25 runs.
