Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to call it quits as India's limited overs captain, two years after calling an end to his Test career. In an unexpected move, as was with most of his big decisions, the former skipper has paved the way for Virat Kohli to take charge of the side. The news was confirmed by BCCI on Twitter. However, he will be available for selection for the limited over games against England.
The news brought admirers of the batsman together on Twitter, who appreciated his contribution as captain:

Dhoni's records are likely to stay untarnished:
Most internationals (all-formats) as wicketkeeper-captain:
Dhoni 331
Mushfiqur 76
Sangakkara 67
I think that record is safe for a fair while— Andy Zaltzman (@ZaltzCricket) January 4, 2017

The effortless ease with which Dhoni seemed to do everything stunned many:
How did Dhoni become captain? How did he win the WT20? How did he bcome MOTM in a WC final? How did his captaincy end?
Ans; just like that— Rehan Ulhaq (@Rehan_ulhaq) January 4, 2017
Harsha Bhogle lauded Dhoni, also wondering if the step down comes with Virat Kohli in mind:
Time to stand up and applaud a magnificent servant, and indeed leader, of Indian cricket. #Dhoni

Trying to think like #Dhoni. Kohli most likely 2019 World Cup captain, so best that he leads in the Champions Trophy so best he starts now.

Fans had their share to say as well:
And Dhoni... finishes off in style.
