MS Dhoni arrived in Chennai for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) preparatory camp ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The defending champions gave their legendary captain a glorious welcome with an even more sensational video on social media. The welcome video was given a touch of Thalapathy Vijay-starrer ‘Leo’s’ effect.

With 17 days to the IPL, MS Dhoni linked up with the CSK squad and support staff after guiding them to their fifth IPL title last season. In a dramatic final they beat Gujarat Titans by five-wickets.

On Monday, MS Dhoni had hinted at a “new role” while expressing his excitement. He wrote on Facebook, “Can’t wait for the new season and the new ‘role’. Stay tuned.”

Upon arrival in Chennai, Dhoni was greeted by the CSK mascot in the team hotel. The ’new role’ was seemingly embraced by the team as well with the mascot in a new avatar.

Here’s a look of ‘Thala’ Dhoni’s arrival in CSK hotel as shared on social media by the IPL franchise.

The video is inspired by the movie Leo which released in October 2023. It is the 16th highest-grossing Indian film of all time.

It is still not clear what MS Dhoni meant when he said ’new role’. It could all have to do with broadcaster promo for Star Sports. “The helicopter has landed in Chennai, New Role loading. Countdown to March 22 starts now… stay tuned to Star Sports for more,” Star Sports India posted on X.

Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings will begin their IPL title defence at home against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on 22 March at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Players have started joining the preparatory camp in Chepauk with more to come once international and T20 league commitments get done. The team would however be without Devon Conway for a considerable period after he underwent surgery to treat a fractured thumb.
