Team India’s fielding coach T Dilip garnered a lot of appreciation when he introduced the culture of honouring the best fielder of the side after every game. The tradition first began ahead of the ICC ODI World Cup and its result was reflected in the on-field performance of every player. The already popular custom has now been modified by Dilip. Apart from recognising the top fielder of each match, the medal will be awarded to the best performer of the series. After the T20I leg of the South Africa tour was wrapped up on Thursday, Dilip broke the news of introducing the ‘Impact Fielder’ Medal inside the Indian dressing room. WATCH THE VIDEO Mohammed Siraj became the first to claim the revamped award, thanks to his stellar performance in the three-match T20I series against the Proteas. “Now we are introducing Impact Fielder of the Series, with which we are recognising consistency, alertness and the impact you make not only in one game but also throughout the series,” Dilip was heard saying in a video on BCCI.tv. Speaking about the need for versatile fielders in the shortest format, Dilip made a special mention of Rinku Singh, who showcased his athleticism and prolificness during the campaign. The youngster was the first contender for the Impact Fielder of the T20I Series medal. Another emerging talent Yashasvi Jaiswal was also praised for taking some crucial catches. After all the contenders were announced, Dilip named Siraj the winner of the medal, referring to his agility and game awareness. The opening match of the T20I was called off without a ball being bowled due to bad weather. Rain also impacted the second game, where India endured a 5-wicket defeat as per DLS method. The Men in Blue was desperate to turn the tables in the third T20I to level the series. Batting first, India produced a mammoth total of 201 runs, with captain Suryakumar Yadav leading from the front. The middle-order batter slammed a quickfire century off just 56 deliveries after his team lost two early wickets. His knock was laced with seven boundaries and eight maximums. Jaiswal was the only other standout batter for the visitors as the young opener scored 60 off 41 balls. Coming in to chase the huge target, South Africa faced a batting collapse as they looked helpless in front of the Indian spinners. Kuldeep Yadav claimed a five-wicket haul, while Ravindra Jadeja got two wickets. Courtesy of their lethal bowling show, South Africa were bundled out for 95 runs.
