Mohammed Shami is likely to return for the Test series against Bangladesh later this year. Shami, who last played in the ODI World Cup final against Australia in November last year, had undergone a surgery on his right Achilles tendon in London in February and has now returned to India. He will also miss the IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup tournaments.
“Shami’s surgery is done, he is back in India. His return is targeted for the home series against Bangladesh,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told News18 CricketNext.
Shami was not part of the India squad that defeated England 4-1 in the recent Test series, and now faces a long road to recovery. According to News18 CricketNext, the BCCI is hoping Shami returns to full fitness ahead of the Test assignments later this year, that includes the away Test series against Australia.
KL Rahul, who had injured his right quadriceps during the India-England Test series, is recovering well and is undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA following a consultation with a specialist in London. Rahul is likely to get the green signal to play in IPL 2024 soon. “KL Rahul needed an injection, he has started rehab and is now recovering at the NCA,” said Shah. Rahul had played the first Test against England in Hyderabad and scored 86 and 22 across both the innings.
