Mitchell Marsh rests feet on World Cup trophy after beating India, gets slammed

Australia cruised past India to win the 2023 ODI World Cup on Sunday in Ahmedabad. The comfortable six-wicket win ensured Australia won their sixth ODI World Cup and shut a loud Narendra Modi Stadium in the process. Travis Head scored 137 runs from 120 balls to bag the Player of the Match honour. He partnered with Marnus Labuschagne as Australia chased down the 241 run total with ease in the end. It didn’t look easy going when David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Steve Smith departed without helping the cause much and Aussies were 47/3. Head and Labuschagne came to the rescue with a 191-run partnership but the former departed while trying to hit the winning runs. Glenn Maxwell got the job done in the end.

Expectedly, celebrations broke out inside the Australian dressing room after the win but one photo has emerged which has divided social media users. Posted by Aussie skipper Pat Cummins on his Instagram story, Marsh can be seen with his feet up on a table with the trophy near it. The photo has drawn multiple opinions. “Please have some respect towards trophy”, one user wrote. “Bro, show some respect to the World Cup trophy. Ask Indian fans or team India about the value of this trophy,” another user wrote. “They deserve but this was very cheap,” a third user wrote. [caption id=“attachment_13406932” align=“alignnone” width=“640”] Pat Cummins shared dressing room photos after Australia’s World Cup win, including that of Mitchell Marsh. Image: Instagram/Pat Cummins[/caption] Marsh made a run-a-ball 15 runs during the chase before being dismissed by Jasprit Bumrah with KL Rahul completing the catch. He cheekily winked at an India player as he walked by which seems to suggest the Australian team were comfortable in their chase. Earlier this month, Marsh had flown home for personal reasons. He returned after missing a match and had reportedly sent a text message to teammate Marcus Stoinis and said, “I’ll be home for a little bit and then I’m coming back to win this World Cup.”
