It has been confirmed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer that a dry red-soil pitch will be used for the IPL 2024 final on Sunday. KKR take on Sunrises Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, a venue that is known for helping spinners and it seems like that will be the same case in the summit clash.
In Qualifier 2 which was played at Chepauk in Chennai as well, SRH successfully defended 176 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) after spinners Shahbaz Ahmad and Abhishek Sharma put a strangle on the opposition by sharing five wickets in eight overs and giving away just 47 runs. That match, however, was played on a black-soil pitch but the final will be played on a red-soil pitch which traditionally allows the ball the grip and assist spinners.

“We don’t know how the wicket is going to play tomorrow and also looking at the match [Eliminator] from the TV, we felt the dew factor would play a great role. But it didn’t and the ball started spinning,” Shreyas said in the pre-match press conference.
“It is a different pitch..going to be a red soil pitch. Not like the one on Qualifier II. Whatever decision we take, or Cummins takes, hopefully, goes in our favour,” Shreyas added.
The fact that the pitch for the final will be made of red soil was also confirmed by the news agency PTI in one of their reports .
SRH captain Pat Cummins was asked about what he would do if he won the toss on the red-soil pitch. Cummins had a diplomatic answer to the question and said that the decision would be taken ahead of the match.

“But yeah, it doesn’t really bother us too much. I think back in the day you used to think about batting first and putting runs on the board. I think teams are probably less worried about chasing nowadays than maybe they were back in the day.”
