Preview: Suryakumar Yadav-led India will look to clinch a series-levelling win when they take on South Africa in the third and final T20I in Johannesburg on Thursday. After the first match in Durban was washed out due to rain, the Proteas emerged winners in the second T20I in Gqeberha by five wickets in another rain-affected contest on Tuesday. That win means the third T20I on Thursday provides the opportunity for the hosts to seal the series. If there’s one thing that looks promising for India ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, it will be the rising stocks of Rinku Singh. Rinku, who finished games for India in the T20I series against Australia, was at his aggressive best with a 39-ball 68 in the second T20I. Apart from Rinku, Suryakumar Yadav (58) also showed promise but it will be paramount that the Men in Blue’s top-order gets going on Thursday. India’s opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill were both dismissed for ducks in the second game. Ruturaj Gaikwad missed that game with illness, and should he return for Thursday’s T20I, Shubman Gill could be the one who makes way. The other change that India could make will be in the spin department, with Kuldeep Yadav likely to make way for Ravi Bishnoi. It, however, remains to be seen how effective the spinners will be on Thursday. As far as South Africa’s team news is concerned, it’s worthy to note that Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee will be unavailable for this match in order to prepare for the upcoming Test series against India. As a result of the duo’s absence, Nandre Burger and Ottniel Baartman could make their respective debuts. Teams: India: Suryakumar Yadav (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Rinku Singh, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan (wk), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Ravindra Jadeja (VC), Washington Sundar, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Deepak Chahar.
