India vs Australia Live Score, World Cup 2023 Toss: Australia win the toss and skipper Pat Cummins opts to bowl in the ultimate match! Both teams opt for unchanged XIs, meaning India will stick to Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja as their spin options for what will be a conducive surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium. India vs Australia Live Score, World Cup 2023 Final: The big final is here with the best two teams in world cricket – India and Australia – facing each other at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Australia are five-time world champions and have been the most dominant side in cricket history, but the tables have turned and India have been the most powerful side in the 2023 World Cup, winning all 10 matches. This is the best India have looked in a while and are clear favourites for the final. Australia on the other hand lost their first two matches but reached the final with an eight-game winning streak. But Australia are Australia and their comeback in the tournament shows that they will be a tough nut to crack, especially mentally. However, if India sticks to doing what they have done so far then nothing should be a problem. They have three batters among the top 10 runs corers in the World Cup and Mohammed Shami with 23 wickets leads the bowling chart. All they need to do in the World Cup is to keep calm. This was exactly the message to his boys by India captain Rohit Sharma on the eve of the final. “This is a huge occasion without a doubt. Whatever we have dreamt so far is here. This is the most challenging aspect for professional sportsmen as to how you keep such challenges out of your minds and keep your focus,” he said. “This is the biggest moment in our careers and it is important to stay calm and composed because that is where you can execute your plans better. You don’t get to play World Cup finals daily. I have grown up watching 50-over World Cups so for me it’ll be the biggest occasion.” Australia captain Pat Cummins is looking forward to silencing the Indian crowd. “The crowd’s obviously going to be very one-sided but it’s also in sport there’s nothing more satisfying than hearing a big crowd go silent and that’s the aim for us tomorrow. Yeah, you’ve just got to embrace every part of it, every part of a final even you know in the lead-up there’s going to be noise and more people and interest and you just can’t get overwhelmed. You got to be up for it, you got to love it and just know whatever happens it’s fine but you just want to finish the day with no regrets,” he said. India vs Australia XIs for World Cup final India: Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj. Australia: Travis Head, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steven Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis(wk), Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins(c), Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

With that, our coverage of the 13th edition of the ICC World Cup comes to an end. A big thank you to everyone who followed our coverage of what was another memorable edition of ICC’s showpiece event. India were the standout team throughout their campaign, only to fall short against a spirited Australian team who know a thing or two about shining on the big stage, and in the end it wasn’t to be for Rohit Sharma and his dream of guiding India to the ultimate glory.
On behalf of my colleagues at Firstpost, this is Amit signing off wishing you all a good night!

The Australian players are next to receive their winners’ medals! Skipper Pat Cummins will now have a chat with Ravi Shastri.
Cummins: I think we saved out best for last. Couple of players stood up. Pretty chuffed. We have been batting first pretty much for the whole tournament. Everyone was pretty keen to get out there. It was a bit slower than I though. Didn’t spin as much as we thought. We adjusted well. Couple of terrific catches there. It all started last week against South Africa. We are an aeging side, but couple of guys throwing themselves around. Felt 300 might have been tough but achievable. I was one of those with their hearts fluttering. Trav just does what he does. Takes the game on. Shows a lot of character. It was a big risk that we took and we’re happy it paid off. I was happy they were silent for a lot of the bowling innings. But pretty fantastic. Pretty special moment. You’ve got to go and win a World Cup, can’t just wait for it to happen. Have to be brave. Crazy. This year will be one we’ll remember for a long, long time.

The Indian players will receive their medals for finishing runners-up in their home World Cup
Rohit Sharma has a word with Ravi Shastri after receiving his medal.
Rohit: The result has not gone our way. We were not good enough today. Really proud of the team, how we performed from Day 1. Wasn’t supposed to be. 20-30 more would have been good. When they were batting they were stitching a good partnership. They needed to stitch a big partnership. Australia did exactly that. You need to take wickets early on. Credit to Travis Head and Marnus, and their partnership took the game away from us. Wicket got slightly better to bat under the lights. We knew under the lights it would be slightly better, but don’t want to give that as an excuse. We didn’t bat well enough to get runs on the board.

The presentation ceremony in the World Cup final is getting underway, and we’ll start with the match medals for Match Referee Andy Pycroft as well as umpires Richard Kettleborough and Richard Illingworth.
There were so many parallels with the 2003 World Cup heading into the summit clash today, but the manner with which Australia fought back after suffering two defeats early in their campaign, going on to defeat South Africa in a tense semi-final before beating a heavily-favoured team from the sub-continent in a comfortable chase, one would assume this to be a repeat of the 1999 World Cup!
India will be gutted to have finally suffered their first defeat of the tournament in the match that matters the most. But skipper Rohit Sharma and his team can hold their heads high for what was an outstanding run, winning all nine games in the group stage before thrashing New Zealand in style with a 70-run margin! They had everything going their way until running into a team that knows the art of winning the big games more than any other side in the world, and deservedly walked away with their sixth world title.

Travis Head is the deserved Player of the Final for his 120-ball 137!
Head: What an amazing day! Just thrilled to be a part of it. It’s a lot better than seeing the World Cup on the couch at home. I was a little bit nervous but Marnus played exceptionally well and soaked all the pressure. . It was a great decision to bowl first and the wicket got better as the game went on. It paid dividends and nice to play a role.

AUSTRALIA ARE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS FOR A SIXTH TIME!
Glenn Maxwell walks out to after Head is dismissed off Siraj’s bowling, and he steers the full delivery towards deep square leg, where a fumble by Kuldeep allows him to dash back for the second. And with that, the Aussies charge towards the ground to celebrate another World Cup victory!
This was supposed to be a showdown for the ages between two of the most clinical teams this World Cup! But Head fought back superbly after the early wobble and took the game out of India’s grasp with a 192-run stand for the fourth wicket that allowed the Aussies to stroll home to victory!

FOUR! Fifty to Marnus Labuschagne, and he brings up the milestone with a boundary off Jasprit Bumrah off the final delivery of the second powerplay! And hes taken his sweet time to bring up the milestone as well, consuming 99 deliveries so far. Australia, meanwhile, are nearly through, needing just 16 more to win off 60.

SIX! Another slog-sweep by Head that sends the ball sailing over the midwicket fence. Head’s nailing this particular shot against the spinners tonight! This time it’s off Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling in his final over of the evening, in which 10 runs are shaved off the equation. Kuldeep signs off wicketless for 56 runs. AUS 214/3; need 27 off 72

Head stays on the backfoot and pulls the ball into the stands to bring up the 200 for the Aussies! Nine off Siraj’s fourth, and Australia are already on the home stretch at this point!

CENTURY TO TRAVIS HEAD — His second of what has been a remarkable World Cup campaign so far as well as his fifth overall in ODIs! Smashes Kuldeep for back-to-back boundaries at the start of the left-arm wrist spinner’s eighth over — dancing down the track and going for a flick towards deep midwicket followed by a heave towards long on. Guides the ball down the ground once again in the third delivery, this time coming back for a brace before collecting among the more memorable singles of his career to bring up the three-figure mark! It hasn’t been a slam-bang knock from Head like the one against New Zealand in Dharamsala, but a more measured knock where he’s absorbed pressure early in the partnership with Labuschagne before accelerating in the middle overs to put the Indians under pressure and force them to commit more errors.

After 32 overs,Australia 172/3 ( Travis Head 88 , Marnus Labuschagne 40)
Rohit’s decided to have spin from both ends again, with Kuldeep replacing Bumrah from the other end while Jadeja continues. Five collected in the last two overs, with Labuschagne moving to 40 at the end of the 32nd. The spinners however, aren’t as lethal against the Aussies as they were in Chennai. Head and Labuschagne’s steady approach, combined with dew, has successfully neutralised that threat.

After 30 overs,Australia 167/3 ( Travis Head 86 , Marnus Labuschagne 37)
Couple of tidy overs for the Indians, with just five singles collected by Head and Labuschagne in the last two overs. Nothing short of a flurry of wickets will bring India back though. Australia need another 74 to win off 120 balls with seven wickets in hand. Head, meanwhile, is 14 short of a century that surely will earn him the Player of the Final award.

After 28 overs,Australia 162/3 ( Travis Head 84 , Marnus Labuschagne 34)
Bumrah gets smacked for 14 on his return to the attack, and that will deflate the Men in Blue as well as the hundred thousand-plus sitting in the stands even further. Bumrah had been India’s standout bowler so far today and even he’s leaking runs right now. Head drives a full delivery down the ground two balls after flicking the ball towards deep midwicket, before muscling the ball towards the square leg fence in the last delivery. Bumrah, however, did nearly break the partnership in the over. Appealed loudly for an LBW against Labuschagne, and Rohit decided to take this upstairs after a quick chat. India gets two reds before the ball is shown to be clipping leg rather than hit it. Wickets is ‘Umpire’s Call’ and Labuschagne survives. Australia need less than 80 to win in from 22 overs, and India will need a miracle of sorts to bounce back from here.

FOUR! And now Jasprit Bumrah — who has been India’s standout bowler so far today — gets hit for a boundary upon return to action. Starts off with a slower ball down leg, and Head promptly flicks it towards the midwicket fence to move to 75 and bring up the 150 for the Aussies! AUS 152/3

The century of the partnership comes up between Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne for the fourth wicket, with the latter bringing up the milestone with a single off Jadeja in the 27th over. Superb work by the two after Australia lose three wickets inside the powerplay. One could say this might just be the partnership that wins Australia its sixth world title. FOUR! And now Labuschagne’s slowly joining the party after playing second fiddle to Head for the most part in the fourth-wicket stand so far. Full delivery from Shami outside off and Labuschagne dispatches this through the covers with a crisp drive. FOUR! Shami gets smacked for two boundaries in his seventh over as Head pulls a short-of-length ball towards the midwicket fence. Partnership’s just three short of the century mark now!

FOUR! And Jadeja’s getting hit for boundaries as well, with the game quickly starting to slip out of India’s grasp! Was a streaky boundary for Head, who got a thick outside edge that once again went through the vacant slip region and all the way to the third man fence. Single collected off each of the last four balls of the over and Australia are looking solid at the halfway stage, needing another 106 to win with 150 deliveries and seven wickets in hand. This partnership might just turn out to be a match-winning one!

Head collects a single in the following over to bring up his second fifty on the trot. Labuschagne then collects his first boundary of the innings with a thick outside edge that runs away through the vacant slip region and all the way to the third man fence. 13 collected in the last two overs.

Five off the over including a brace to Labuschagne in the fifth delivery after a drive towards deep extra cover, where Shreyas Iyer puts in a slide to save a couple of runs for his team. Australia have all the overs in the world to collect the remaining 137 runs. The only way India will win this is through wickets. Nothing else.

After 19 overs,Australia 99/3 ( Travis Head 43 , Marnus Labuschagne 13)
Kuldeep continues after the drinks interval and concedes just two singles in his fourth over. The pair consume 70 deliveries to bring up the milestone.

After 17 overs,Australia 93/3 ( Travis Head 40 , Marnus Labuschagne 10)
FOUR! Head had taken the attack to Kuldeep in the previous over, and now has a boundary off Mohammed Siraj in the pacer’s first over of the day. Short-of-length and outside off, and Head has little trouble steering it behind point, with the ball racing away to the fence and beating the man running to his left from third man. SIx off Siraj’s first over of the day, with drinks being brought to the field after 17 overs of play. Partnership between Head and Labuschagne’s worth 46 already with the latter having contributed just 10 so far. Looks like Head will be the key wicket for the Men in Blue going forth.

SIX! Head gets down on one knee and goes for a well-timed slog-sweep, comfortably clearing the midwicket fence! Australia were starting to experience a slowdown like India did after the conclusion of the first powerplay until Head broke the shackles with that mighty hit towards the leg side. Nine off Kuldeep’s third over. Partnership’s already worth 40 and one that has the crowd a little worried at the moment.

After 12 overs,Australia 68/3 ( Travis Head 22 , Marnus Labuschagne 3)
Spin introduced right after the conclusion of the first powerplay, with Jadeja and Kuldeep replacing Bumrah and Shami respectively. Jadeja starts off with two wides fired down the leg side to Head, with a fumble by Rahul allowing an extra run. Couple of big LBW appeals later in Jadeja’s first over, and the umpire shakes his head on both occasions. Kuldeep, meanwhile, concedes three singles in his first over.

FOUR! FOUR! Back-to-back fours for Head, who’s decided to drop the cautious act and attack again. Opens the face of his bat and guides the ball behind gully in the third delivery before driving the next one down the ground, beating mid on. Nine off Shami’s fifth over as Australia reach 60/3 at the end of the first powerplay. That’s 20 less than what India had managed at the same stage, but having lost one more wicket.

OUT! Two wickets in as many overs for Jasprit Bumrah, and what a spell he’s having at the moment! Slower ball from ‘Boom’ and this takes Smith, who had Bumrah for a four straight down the ground just two deliveries back, completely by surprise. He ends up getting hit on the backpad in front of off, and the umpire raises his finger right away after an animated appeal. Smith has a quick word with Head and decides to march off without going for the review, a decision he would regret in the pavilion as Hawk-Eye later shows the ‘Impact’ was outside off.
