IPL 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders post tournament's second-highest total of 272/7 in clash against Delhi Capitals

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday posted their highest-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) total of 272/7 against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Visakhapatnam. Sunil Narine (85), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54) and Andre Russell (41) were the orchestrators of the innings whereas Rinku Singh played an eight-ball 26. KKR had won the toss and opted to bat first. As a result, this was the second-highest total in IPL history after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 277 against Mumbai Indians (MI).

Only a few days ago, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had posted the highest-ever IPL total of 277 when they took on Mumbai Indians (MI) in Uppal. And although KKR could not break that record, they went past RCB’s total of 263 that they had set against the now defunct Pune Warriors India (PWI) in 2013.

Phil Salt and Sunil Narine put up 61 runs for the first wicket before the former dismissed. Angkrish Raghuvanshi then joined Sunil Narine in the middle and forged 104 runs for the second wicket before the West Indian was dismissed by Mitchell Marsh in the 13th over.

Raghuvanshi, batting for the first-ever time in the IPL today, got to his half century off just 25 balls. “I just wanted to watch the ball and react. I had worked in the nets for the last few weeks, just had fun watching Sunil play. Having watched the SRH match, nothing’s a winning score, we’ll have to bowl well. Bowl in the right channels and force them into mistakes,” the 18-year-old told broadcasters during the mid-innings break.

The platform was earlier set by Salt and Narine as KKR put up 88 runs in the powerplay phase. There was no stopping them from there, as the rest of their batters hardly seemed troubled by the DC bowlers.
