KKR vs RCB, IPL 2024 Highlights: Kolkata win thriller against Bengaluru by 1 run

Phew! What a cracker of a contest that turned out to be at the Eden Gardens, with KKR ultimately prevailing in a see-saw contest that takes them to the second spot on the points table! Despite giving their absolute best in the challenging run chase, RCB end up suffering their seventh loss of the season in eight outings, and are on the verge of getting eliminated from the playoffs race even if they remain mathematically alive.

Bengaluru were cruising at 137/2 after 11 overs with Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar having brought up their half-centuries, and it appeared as if they would pull off their highest successful run chase in a canter. Instead, they lost wickets in a heap by committing hara-kiri to ensure they remain at the bottom of the table for now!

Gets a thick leading edge that results in a catch for Harshit Rana near backward point. Bengaluru suddenly in a spot of bother just when things were starting to look bright for them! Whether RCB win or lose however, Patidar’s repaid the faith shown in him by the team management with a knock that should assure him of his spot in the middle-order for the remainder of the season.

Follows it up with a couple of sixes in the next over as Sunil Narine goes for 15 in his third over. Patidar reaches the milestone with a six off the final delivery of the 11th over, slog-sweeping the ball into the stands beyond deep midwicket.

OUT! Kohli chips the ball in the air off a high full toss from Rana, the latter completing a simple catch off his own bowling. The RCB batting superstar reviews right away after the on-field umpire doesn’t raise his arm to signal a waist-high no-ball, and expects the dismissal to get overturned in the end. Much to his displeasure however, TV umpire Michael Gough sticks with his on-field colleague’s decision as Kohli was standing outside the popping crease. Kohli’s absolutely furious with the umpires after failing to overturn the dismissal, getting into an animated discussion with the umpires with skipper Faf also pleading on his behalf, and storms back to the RCB dugout. He was off to a superb start and was starting to look ominous from KKR’s perspective. Massive wicket for Rana and the Knight Riders.

Starc later concedes a four in the final delivery, with RCB skipper Faf du Plessis collecting his first boundary with a lofted drive over mid off that isn’t well timed, but results in the ball running away to the fence regardless. 15 off the second over. The Aussie left-arm quick also needed some medical attention on his finger after the first legal delivery.

Single off the fifth delivery followed by a boundary to Ramandeep in the final delivery, uppercutting a bouncer bowled outside off towards the third man fence.

Ramandeep smashes the ball into the stands beyond deep midwicket and the next one over Virat Kohli at long off, before collecting a streaky boundary in the third delivery off a thick outside edge that carries the ball all the way to third man. Despite keeping it tidy in the remaining deliveries, Siraj ends up conceding 20 in his final over of the evening. One more over to go after this.

Iyer was looking to smash this over the fence, but ended up slicing the ball. Nine runs and a wicket off Green’s final over as the Aussie all-rounder signs off with figures of 2/35.

Shreyas Iyer brings up his half-century with a six and a four off Yash Dayal, smacking a short-of-length ball outside off over long off for a maximum before drilling the next delivery straight down the ground for a four! The Kolkata captain brings up the milestone in 35 deliveries, collecting seven fours and a six along the way. Massive over from Dayal, one that shifts the momentum once again in Kolkata’s favour, as he goes for 23 in his third over. Russell smashes a full toss through cover for a four at the start of the over. The next one’s a horror delivery — not only is it bowled far down the leg side and runs away for four byes, it’s also a front-foot no ball. An under-pressure Dayal then concedes two more wides later in the over.

Excellent final over from Lockie Ferguson, conceding six singles at a time when Dre Russ is swinging his arms and looking to smash a few into the stands. Superb recovery by the Black Caps pacer after the kind of start he got off to earlier today. Makes good use of his pace variations as well, offering batters no pace to work with in a couple of those deliveries. He signs off with 1/47 as the umpire taps at his watch to signal the second timeout of the Kolkata innings.

FOUR! Shreyas goes for the reverse sweep off a tossed up delivery outside off from Karn Sharma, who concedes seven in his final over to sign off with figures of 0/33. Another five overs to go, and Kolkata are going at nearly 10-an-over at the moment.

OUT! A trap was set in place for Rinku and he falls for it, pulling a slower bouncer from Ferguson straight to Dayal at short fine to depart for 24. The Kiwi pacer nearly collects two-in-two as new batter Andre Russell nicks the ball to Dinesh Karthik in the following delivery off a waist-high full toss that is called a no-ball. Ferguson does an excellent job of restricting Dre Russ to a single in the ‘Free Hit’, and concedes just five runs along with the wicket in his third over. What a comeback by the pacer after getting smashed for 28 runs by Phil Salt in his first over of the day.

Green misses out on second catch, this time off his own bowling as Shreyas chips the ball in his direction. Wasn’t an easy chance though as the Australian seam-bowling all-rounder had a fraction of a second to react. To make matters worse, both Rinku and Shreyas collect a boundary each later in the over, the former lucky to get a four off a mishit.
