Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), IPL 2024 Match 36 Preview: The 17th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has entered the halfway stage with the first of the reverse fixtures taking place between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Kolkata on Sunday.
KKR had handed RCB a convincing defeat at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium when the two sides first met this season on 29 March, making a mockery of the 183-run target set by the hosts by chasing it down in just 16.5 overs as Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 83 off 59 balls went in vain.
Kohli has been in solid form this season and is currently in possession of the Orange Cap with 361 runs, and will be hoping to register another big score against the Shreyas Iyer-led Knight Riders. However, the former India and RCB captain will be hoping his team will end up on the right side of the result this time.
RCB are at the bottom of the 10-team table at present with six defeats in seven outings, and another loss on Sunday afternoon might bring their hopes of reaching the playoffs to a practical end, even if they remain mathematically alive in the coming days.
KKR, on the other hand, are third on the points table and had been at the top at one point. A victory will help them go level with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on 10 points and given their superior Net Run Rate (NRR), should help them move to the second spot.
Kolkata lead Bengaluru on the head-to-head count, having registered 19 wins compared to RCB’s 14 including a 140-run hammering in the very first match of the league — on 18 April in 2008 at the Chinnaswamy. Having lost the home game earlier the season, the Royal Challengers will be hoping to make it one-all against the Knight Riders in the first match of the Sunday double-header.
