As Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 36 runs in IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 to storm into the final, co-owner Kavya Maran was spotted celebrating the victory ecstatically. The video from the penultimate over of the match is going viral on social media, and Kavya Maran could be seen celebrating with other members of the SRH VIP box in the video as she could not keep calm.
Kavya Maran, who has become a social media celebrity with her appearances in the IPL, has had her videos going viral multiple times but they mostly show her disappointment as SRH crashed out or failed to reach the playoffs. But Hyderabad has scripted an incredible turnaround under Pat Cummins’ captaincy this season to reach the final .
SRH are now into their third IPL final and the first in six years. They first reached the final in 2016 when they won their maiden IPL trophy under the captaincy of David Warner.
Hyderabad also reached the final in 2018 but lost to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final.
“The boys have been fantastic all season. There’s a great vibe in the squad as you can see and the final was the goal at the start of the season and we made it,” Cummins said after reaching the IPL final. “We knew our strength was our batting and we wouldn’t underestimate the experience we have in this squad, it’s a dream having Bhuvi, Nattu and Unadkat, makes my job easy.”
SRH batter first in the Qualifier 2 and scored 175/9 as Heinrich Klaasen made 50 and Rahul Tripathi scored 37.
In reply, SRH were restricted to 139/7 as spinner Shahbaz Ahmed (3/23) and Abhishek Sharma (2/24) strangled them in middle overs.
Impact Shorts
More Shorts“[on whose decision it was to bring Shahbaz as impact player] Dan Vettori, left-arm orthodox and wanted as many left-arm orthodox as possible. [on Abhishek’s bowling] That was a surprise, tried to stick one out of him with a couple of right-handers and he bowled beautifully and those two won it with their bowling in the middle overs.” Cummins added.
“170 was a tough chase and had we got a couple of wickets we knew we had a chance. I will never pretend to work out the pitch and conditions ever, different every week. It is for the whole franchise, probably 60 or 70 of them who put their heart and soul into this and hopefully one more left.”
