Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh and his Pakistan counterpart Kamran Akmal recently faced off during the World Championship of Legends tournament in Birmingham. They were seen having an animated discussions on the sidelines of a match between India Champions and Pakistan Champions recently, before the two were separated by another person.
The discussion between Harbhajan Singh and Kamran Akmal seemed to be regarding for a controversial remark made by the latter on live TV during India’s T20 World Cup match against Pakistan that took place in New York on 9 June. Kamran Akmal had taken a dig at Arshdeep Singh’s religion during a panel discussion on ARY News.
Later, in an interview with Paktv.tv, Kamran Akmal clarified regarding the details of his conversation with Harbhajan Singh and admitted his mistake to the former spinner regarding his on-air comments.
“(Mujhse galti hui thi aur wahi ek baat chal rahi thi) I made a mistake, and that was the only topic being discussed. It was never my intention, and I can never think negatively about anyone’s religion. I have made that clear. It should be done because I am younger, they are seniors and a great off-spinner in Indian and world cricket," he said.

Harbhajan, however, was angry at Kamran Akmal’s remark and shared a post on “X”, saying: “You should know the history of Sikhs before you open your filthy mouth. We Sikhs saved your mothers and sisters when they were abducted by invaders, the time invariably was 12 o’clock. Shame on you guys. Have some gratitude.”

Just a few hours after Harbhajan’s comments, Kamran issued an apology in a post on “X”. “I deeply regret my recent comments and sincerely apologise to Harbhajan Singh and the Sikh community. My words were inappropriate and disrespectful. I have the utmost respect for Sikhs all over the world and never intended to hurt anyone. I am truly sorry,” he wrote.
The 42 year-old from Lahore also discussed regarding Harbhajan Singh’s indecent gesture when he was asked to compare Babar Azam with the legendary Brian Lara during another panel discussion. Harbhajan had burst out laughing at that time, but later admitted that he should have refrained from doing so.
