Indian women’s cricket team player Jemimah Rodrigues said she is looking forward to representing her country at the Los Angeles Olympics in four year’s time.
Cricket was last part of the Olympic programme at Paris 1900 . Last year, it was re-introduced for LA 2028 alongside squash, lacrosse, baseball/softball and flag football. Cricket will include men’s and women’s T20 disciplines.
At Paris 1900, Great Britain and France were the only two participants. They played a single two-innings-a-side two-day match with Great Britain’s Devon and Somerset Wanderers triumphing over France’s French Athletic Club Union.
Jemimah, who has played three Tests, 30 ODIs and 100 T20Is for India, praised the Indian athletes for giving their all at the Paris Olympics.
“Loved wearing this current Indian Olympic jersey. Can’t wait to play Cricket for India at the Olympics soon!! Man, what a feeling that’d be. Also, our Indian athletes have shown tremendous passion, commitment, persistence and grit! Win or lose, we’re proud of you,” Jemimah wrote.
India won six medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Manu Bhaker opened India’s medal tally by winning bronze in the individual and mixed team events, alongside Sarabjot Singh. Swapnil Kusale added to the tally with another medal in shooting.
