Irfan Pathan faces fundamentalists' flak for celebrating Hindu festival Raksha Bandhan

So it has come down to this. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan was a victim of trolls and his actions were branded ‘un-Islamic’ again after he recently posted a picture of himself with a rakhi around his wrist. On the day of Rakshabandhan — one of the more popular festivals celebrated in India — Pathan took to Instagram to post a picture of himself with a rakhi tied around his wrist and wished everyone a ‘Happy Rakshabandhan’.

This is not the first time that Pathan or Muslim cricketers have been targeted by Islamic radicals on social media platforms. Recently, the Baroda cricketer was attacked on Facebook for supposedly having defied the rules and traditions of Islam after posting a picture with wife Safa Baig.

Earlier, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami too was at the receiving end of trolls and abuses not once but twice. He was trolled for posting ‘un-Islamic’ pictures of his daughter’s birthday last year and was slammed for posting a picture with his wife, who was wearing a sleeveless gown. Even former India international Mohammad Kaif was recently attacked for posting a picture of himself playing chess with his son. The former middle-order batsman was also trolled for doing the Surya Namaskar.
