Just a few back it was felt that Rishabh Pant was all set to resume his innings with Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the situation at the franchise has changed a lot since the recent coaching staff shakeup and with reports circling around that Pant will not be captain next season, the Times of India has claimed that the Indian wicketkeeper-batter is set to enter the mega auction ahead of IPL 2025.
Former India batter Hemang Badani was recently appointed as DC coach while Venugopal Rao is the new Director of Cricket, replacing the legendary Sourav Ganguly. The former India captain Ganguly has now joined DC co-owner JSW as Director of Cricket at JSW Sports.
DC management doesn’t want Pant as captain
As per the TOI report, the 27-year-old Pant has held multiple rounds of discussions with DC owners and wants to continue as captain but the management is not willing to relent which is why it seems certain that the India cricketer will enter the auction instead of opting to get retained by the Delhi franchise.

Pant has been part of DC since 2016 and unless they quickly reach a settlement, Pant could play for a new IPL team during the 2025 season. Also, remember that 31 October is the last date for all 10 IPL franchises to finalise their retentions list which means DC doesn’t have much time to settle this issue as Pant is currently with the Indian team.

It has also been reported that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are closely following the development and go big in the auction for Pant’s services. Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) would also be interested after reportedly deciding to part ways with KL Rahul. Another team who could be interested in Pant is Punjab Kings (PBKS) who are now coached by former DC head coach Ricky Ponting. The Australian shares a strong bond with Pant.

Shreyas to leave KKR?
Another big development ahead of the IPL auction is recent reports that Shreyas Iyer does not feature in the list of top retentions for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), which means he can also enter the auction in search of a better deal and a captaincy post at some other franchise.
The auction is expected to take place in Riyadh in the last week of November.
