IPL Final: Complete list of winners and runners-up from 2008 to 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday clinched their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title after they outplayed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final in Chennai. This was also KKR’s first IPL title since a decade, having last won under Gautam Gambhir in 2014.

KKR were dominant in the final, after they were asked to field by the Sunrisers early on. Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora struck in the powerplay with the wickets of Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head and Rahul Tripathi. SRH were restricted to 40/3 in that phase, but Aiden Markram (20) and later Pat Cummins (24) provided a very short resistance, but the duo’s knocks weren’t enough from avoiding SRH to collapse to a low total of 113.

That was also the lowest-ever team total in an IPL final, with the previous highest being 125/9 by CSK against MI in 2013.

KKR made light work of the chase despite the early setback of Sunil Narine’s dismissal. Venkatesh Iyer (52*) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39) forged 91 runs for the second wicket, and although the Afghanistan batter was dismissed in the 10th over, the game was pretty much sealed by then.

As far as IPL titles are concerned, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lead the way with five titles each. KKR are next with three titles, whereas Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the now defunct Deccan Chargers have won one each.
