A year on from winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) in their opening season, Gujarat Titans reached the final last season. In the title clash, they fell short against Chennai Super Kings.

GT topped the points table with 10 wins from 14 matches and advanced to the qualifiers directly. In the playoff, they were beaten by CSK. Having earned a second shot at the final, they beat Mumbai Indians convincingly.

The 2013 IPL final, between CSK and GT, was pushed a day forward due to rain and eventually ran well past midnight when it got underway. CSK won by 5 wickets under the DLS method as the match finished at 1:35 AM IST.

Highest run-getter: Shubman Gill (1373)

Shubman Gill is the leading run scorer for the Gujarat Titans. The top-order batter has scored 1373 runs in 33 matches including three centuries and eight fifties. He boasts a strike rate of 147.79 and average of 47.34. Gill’s highest score for GT, 129 runs from 60 balls, came against Mumbai Indians in a pivotal second qualifier last season. His 890 runs in IPL 2023 earned him the Orange Cap award for most runs in a season.

Highest wicket-taker: Mohammed Shami (48)

Veteran India seamer Mohammed Shami was GT’s leading wicket-taker after the first season and remained the case after the second IPL as well. Shami joined GT after three seasons with the Punjab Kings. In IPL 2022 he set the mark with 20 wickets. The next season he pushed the envelope with 28 wickets to win the Purple Cap for most wickets in a season. From 33 matches, Shami has 48 wickets for GT with best figures of 4/11 and an economy of 8.01.

Highest individual score: Shubman Gill (129)
Opening batter Gill scored GT’s highest individual score with 129 runs from 60 balls in the second qualifier against Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. Gill’s knock was laced with seven boundaries and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 215.00. The knock helped GT ease into the final and earned him the Player of the Match honour.

Highest team score: 233/3 vs Mumbai Indians

In IPL 2022, multiple teams breached the 200 run score but GT were not one of them despite winning the title. A year later, they entered the 200-run club five times. Gujarat Titans scored 233/3 against Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier with Gill scoring 129 runs. Sai Sudharsan also played a role with 43 from 31 balls and Hardik Pandya with an unbeaten 28 from 13 balls. This was the third biggest team total of the IPL 2023 season.

Favourite opponent: Lucknow Super Giants

Gujarat Titans have an unbeaten record against fellow newbies Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. GT and LSG have met four times and Gujarat have won all four of their matches.
