Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face off in the IPL Eliminator on Wednesday in Ahmedabad. On the eve of the clash, with the Narendra Modi Stadium being used for the Qualifier between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, the teams had no option but to train elsewhere.
RR trained at the University Ground between 4-6 PM in Ahmedabad but curiously RCB cancelled their session without any reason.
Reports have been doing the rounds that a terror threat prevented the Faf du Plessis-led side from getting ready for the knockout fixture. However, as per CricketNext, a Gujarat Cricket Association official suggested that wasn’t the case.
“We were not told about any terror threat by the RCB. In fact, they cancelled the training before the suspects were arrested. We had made arrangements for both RR and RCB at the University Ground and RR even trained in the evening hours. So many spectators attended the match last evening in Ahmedabad and there is no reason to panic,” said a Gujarat Cricket Association official as per the report.
As far as media duties were concerned, there was nothing scheduled since the main stadium was being used for the Qualifier. Even ahead of the Kolkata Knight Riders versus Sunrisers Hyderabad clash, which KKR won by 8 wickets to qualify for the final, there was no practice or media duties.
Despite reports, RCB vs RR will go ahead as scheduled and both teams would look to take a step towards the final. RCB, on a six match winning run, go in as favourites against RR who have struggled this month. The winner of Eliminator will take on SRH in Qualifier 2 in Chennai and winner of that game will battle it out with KKR in Sunday’s final.
