Bhuvneshwar Kumar ended up as Monday’s most expensive buy at the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Bhuvneshwar had been released by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) ahead of the auction. On Monday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) acquired the out-of-favor India pacer for Rs 10.75 crore.

Being released by SRH meant that the 34-year-old’s association with the 2016 IPL champions ended after 10 years. This will be Bhuvneshwar’s second stint with RCB in the IPL, after having been acquired by the franchise in 2009. Bhuvneshwar, however, did not get to play even a single game for RCB in IPL. He was then bought by the now-defunct Pune Warriors India (PWI) for whom he played for three seasons. Ahead of the 2014 IPL, SRH snapped up Bhuvneshwar for Rs 4.25 crore.

On Monday, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants were involved in a tense bidding war for Bhuvneshwar, and RCB entered the fray when the bid was more than Rs 10 crore. RCB eventually got Bhuvneshwar in the first time of asking.

Deepak Chahar, who previously played for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rising Pune Supergiant, was the next big buy of the day on Monday during the IPL 2025 auction. Mumbai Indians snapped him up for Rs 9.25 crore. There was a similar battle for Chahar, but that was between MI and Punjab Kings (PBKS). CSK then entered the race for Chahar at Rs 8 crore, but eventually lost to their “El Clasico” rivals MI.

On Sunday, the opening day of the auction, Rishabh Pant had become the most expensive IPL player of all time after Lucknow Super Giants purchased the India wicketkeeper-batter for Rs 27 crore.
