IPL Auction 2024: Who is Sameer Rizvi, the UP batter who earned Rs 8.4 crore from CSK?

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) broke the bank on Tuesday to buy Sameer Rizvi for Rs 8.4 crore at the IPL 2024 Auction which took place in Dubai. There was an intense bidding war for the 20-year-old batter from Uttar Pradesh before CSK landed him in a multi-crore deal. Apart from CSK, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) also showed keen interest in the player before pulling out eventually. He also scored two hundreds. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-24 he scored 277 in seven matches at a strike rate of 139.89. The best thing about his campaign was the 18 sixes he hit in the tournament. Former India cricketer Abhinav Mukund had regarded him as “right-handed Suresh Raina” ahead of the IPL 2024 Auction.

“One of the IPL scouts actually told me that he was the right-handed Suresh Raina. The areas that he hits against spin are similar and many teams might go after him,” Abhinav Mukund told Jio Cinema. With Rizvi, CSK have tried to fill the gap left behind by the retirement of Ambati Rayudu.
