IPL franchise Delhi Capitals are reportedly in talks with former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh regarding a coaching role with the team next season.
Delhi Capitals are looking to find a replacement for long-time head coach Ricky Ponting who exited in July. Yuvraj is being touted as the Australian’s successor, as per the Sportstar report.
Earlier, reports had claimed that Yuvraj was in contention to replace Ashish Nehra as the coach of Gujarat Titans.
However, recent reports claim the former India seamer Nehra is likely to continue in his place as the head coach, and the Titans are mulling their options to replace Gary Kirsten, who is now the head coach of Pakistan.
Yuvraj, who has no prior coaching experience, has worked closely with Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and a few other cricketers from Punjab.
Yuvraj featured in 40 Tests, 304 ODIs and 58 T20Is for India. He was a key member of India’s ODI World Cup-winning team in 2011.
The Delhi Capitals have never won the IPL trophy and been to the title clash just once - in 2020, where they lost to Mumbai Indians.
In the following season, they made the playoffs, but things have been poor since 2022, failing to reach the playoffs for three successive seasons.
With Ponting’s exit, the franchise is planning an overhaul in its coaching department, with former India captain Sourav Ganguly at the helm as the Director of Cricket.
