The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction will take place in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah on 24 and 25 November. It had earlier been reported that Riyadh would host the two-day event , but BCCI has now confirmed Jeddah as the venue. A total of 1,574 players will go under the hammer at the IPL 2025 mega auction, an official IPL press release said on Tuesday. This list includes 1,165 Indians and 409 overseas players. The auction will take place at the Abady Al Johar Arena, as per a report in ESPNCricinfo.
“The IPL player registration officially closed on November 4, 2024, with an impressive total of 1,574 players (1,165 Indian and 409 overseas) signing up to be part of the mega TATA IPL 2025 Player Auction, which will be held over two days on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia,” said the release. “The list includes 320 capped players, 1,224 uncapped players, and 30 players from Associate Nations,” the release added.
The deadline for all 10 franchises to announce their list of retained players was 31 October. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Heinrich Klaasen (Rs 23 crore) was the top retention, followed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli and Lucknow Super Giants’ Nicholas Pooran (Rs 21 crore each). Star players like KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant were released by their respective franchises and will go under the hammer.
The IPL mega auction takes place every three years and is held across two days. The IPL 2022 mega auction had taken place in Bengaluru. This auction will also witness the return of the Right to Match (RTM) card , which was last used at the 2018 IPL auction.
