Sanjay Manjrekar, former India cricketer and currently a commentator, is looking forward to seeing a “physically ready” Rishabh Pant hit shots all around the park. Rishabh Pant recently made a comeback to competitive cricket after 15 months, in the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign. Pant, who scored 18 and 28 against Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals respectively, had suffered multiple injuries in a car accident in December 2022. The 26-year-old is currently leading DC in IPL 2024.
“He’s a very physical batter and his batting success has depended on him being physically ready, so when that starts to happen, I think that is when Rishabh Pant is truly back in the game, because at the moment, you can see that the hitting is a little measured, but that is all I’m looking forward to,” Manjrekar told Star Sports.
Manjrekar added that he was eagerly waiting to see Pant hit his trademark one-handed sixes that he has so often hit in England. “Having said that, I’m only waiting to see Rishabh Pant play one of those shots. You know we have seen him right he played in England, where he just sort of loses balance and gets into a shape that you know can’t understand, never balanced, but the ball has gone in the second tier of the stand,” continued the 58-year-old.
DC have played two matches and have lost two and lie ninth in the 10-team points table. They next take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Vizag on Sunday (31 March). CSK are on top of the points table with four points from two matches.
