Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) opener Virat Kohli won the Orange Cap for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season after he finished with 741 runs from 15 matches at an average of 61.75 and a strike-rate of 154.69. This is the second time Kohli has won the Orange Cap, after having won in 2016, when he had scored a record 973 runs.
IPL 2024 Purple Cap: Leading wicket-takersChennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad finished second on the run-scorer’s list with 583 runs at an average of 53 and a strike rate of 141.16, while RR’s Riyan Parag was third. Riyan Parag scored just six runs in the Qualifier 2 against SRH on Friday that took his tally to 573 runs. SRH’s Travis Head, who endured a first-ball duck against KKR in Sunday’s final, remained in fourth place with 567 runs from 14 matches.
RR captain Sanju Samson completes the top five, finishing his season with 531 runs. In sixth is GT batter B Sai Sudharsan (527 runs), whereas LSG skipper KL Rahul (520) sits in seventh place.
Rahul’s teammate Nicholas Pooran (499) finished in eighth place. Sunil Narine, the KKR opener, scored 488 runs from 15 matches and is in ninth, whereas SRH opener Abhishek Sharma (484 runs) completes the top 10.
Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill had won the Orange Cap last year after finishing with 890 runs at an average and strike rate of 59.33 and 157.80 respectively, collecting four half-centuries and three tons along the way including 129 against Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2. Gill came closest to breaking ex-RCB skipper Kohli’s all-time record for most runs in a single season, finishing 83 short of the the latter’s 973 runs that he had collected in 2016.
