Preview: The wait is finally over. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 will get underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday with a blockbuster clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the defending champions, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). CSK in fact enter a new era in their IPL journey with Ruturaj Gaikwad having been given captaincy duties for the season, taking over from MS Dhoni.
The match starts at 8 pm IST, but before the match, there will be a glitzy opening ceremony to kick things off. Some of the marquee performers include stars like music composer AR Rahman, playback singer Sonu Nigam and actors Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. Sweden’s DJ Axwell is also expected to perform during the mid-innings break. Axwell is a member of the music band called Swedish House Mafia.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to commence at 6.30 pm IST.
