Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins on Tuesday heaped praise on  youngster Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was at the centre of attraction during his team’s two-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Nitish, 20, amassed 64 runs from 37 balls, hitting four fours and five sixes in the process.

They were 64/4 at that stage but Nitish Reddy forged several partnerships, including a half-century stand with Abdul Samad to lead SRH to 182/9. “He was awesome, top of the order, fantastic in the field, bowled three overs too. To get us to 180 off his bat, it was amazing,” Cummins said of Nitish.

Nitish , who won the Player of the Match, said: “For me it’s like a big contribution for my team and for myself. I have been telling myself that I should believe in myself. The seamers were bowling really well, I didn’t want to take on them. I knew that the spinners would come and I wanted to attack them, I just did that.”

Nitish was keen to continue his good form in the upcoming matches. “The whole tournament, they are bowling slow bouncers and it’s really working. I also used the dimensions to get the wicket. I just want to continue this performance with the bat or ball or with the fielding, I just want to be like this,” added Nitesh.

SRH stayed in fifth place with six points from five matches after the win. They will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
