Suryakumar Yadav could miss the first two matches of IPL 2024 as he continues to recover from a sports hernia surgery at Bengaluru’s National Cricket Academy (NCA). Suryakumar got injured during his last international outing in South Africa and underwent surgery in January. The swashbuckling batter is currently undergoing rehabilitation at NCA and there’s no clarity on when he will be back for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, though it’s known that he is close to a competetive return.
SKY has been posting a lot of videos on strength and conditioning training on Instagram but he hasn’t been seen batting yet, which will give a better idea of his progress.
Mumbai Indians start their IPL 2024 campaign against Gujarat Titans on 24 March before taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad on 27 March. While Surya is expected to be fit for the majority of IPL 2024, things are not clear for the first two games.
“Surya’s rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly ‘Return to Play’ in the IPL itself. However it is still not clear whether the NCA’s Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27),” a BCCI source told news agency PTI.
“There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself,” the source added.

More ShortsApart from Mumbai, SKY is also a vital player for Team India and the BCCI would probably not want to rush him considering the T20 World Cup starts immediately after IPL.
He has scored 2141 runs in 60 T20Is at a whopping strike rate of 171.6 and also has four international hundreds to his name in the shortest format.
