Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) all-rounder Marcus Stoinis on Tuesday notched up his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) century during his team’s league stage match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chepauk. Stoinis, playing his 90th IPL match, got to his century off 56 deliveries, hitting nine fours and five sixes. He did so by collecting a brace off Mustafizur’s ball in the 18th over.
The 34 year-old came into bat at number three following the dismissal of Quinton de Kock (0) in the very first over. The Australian was involved in fifty-plus stands with Devdutt Padikkal, Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda as he helped LSG cross the finish line against CSK by six wickets with three balls to spare, while chasing down a target of 211.
With this, CSK have now lost back-to-back matches in this IPL following an eight-wicket loss to the same opposition in Lucknow a few days back.

Earlier, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front with an unbeaten 108 to help his team put 210/4. His knock was supported by an innings of 66 from Shivam Dube. In fact, Gaikwad and Dube forged 104 runs for the fourth wicket that eventually set the platform for CSK to post a big total.
But, as it turns out, even that total was not big enough. LSG lost early wickets of Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul (16) and were 45/2 in the first six overs. But, Stoinis was the game-changer as his fiery knock led the way for a Lucknow fightback. He reached his half century off 26 deliveries with six fours and two sixes, and from then on, there was no turning back.

More ShortsNicholas Pooran (34 off 15 balls) and Deepak Hooda (17 not out off six balls) also played match-defining roles in the chase. The win took LSG to a spot higher to fourth in the IPL standings, with 10 points from eight games whereas CSK slipped to fifth with eight points from as many games.
