Delhi Capitals (DC) on Wednesday suffered a major setback ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with England batter Harry Brook pulling out of the tournament citing personal reasons. A report in Cricbuzz said that Delhi Capitals were looking for a replacement. Brook was acquired by DC for Rs 4 crore at the IPL auction in Dubai in December.
Brook had turned out for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2023, and although he scored a 55-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Brook had a forgettable season altogether, aggregating just 190 runs from 11 matches.
Brook had also skipped the recently-concluded Test series against India due to personal reasons. “The Brook family respectfully requests privacy during this time. In light of this, the ECB and the family kindly request the media and the public to respect their wish for privacy and refrain from intruding on their private space,” theECB had said in a statement in January ahead of the series.
Brook is not the only England player to have pulled out of IPL 2024. Mark Wood had pulled out of the tournament with the ECB looking to manage his workload ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup. KKR’s Jason Roy too pulled out of the IPL due to personal reasons and Phil Salt had been named as replacement.
The IPL 2024 gets underway with a marquee clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Chennai.
