The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ended the suspense surrounding the schedule for the remaining weeks of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), with Chennai and Ahmedabad set to host the playoffs for the second consecutive season.
The only difference, however, is that Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium is set to host the big final besides Qualifier 2, while Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium hosts Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator.
It had been the other way round last season, with the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings defeating Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans in the summit clash to win the tournament for the fifth time.
The BCCI had on 23 February unveiled the schedule for the first two weeks of the 17th season due to the tournament coinciding with the Lok Sabha Elections, with the last set of fixtures in the original schedule taking place on the 7 April double-header.
Additionally, 2020 runners-up Delhi Capitals are set to play their first home game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 20 April. The venue had been used for the second half of this year’s Women’s Premier League (WPL), including the playoffs, and the franchise decided to allow the pitches to recover before hosting IPL matches this season.
Delhi are set to play their first two ‘home’ games, against CSK (31 March) and Kolkata Knight Riders (3 April), at Visakhapatnam’s ACA-VDCA Stadium.
As had been the case in recent years, Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals are set to play a couple of their ‘home’ matches in Dharamsala and Guwahati respectively.
