Karthik, who began his IPL career with Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) in 2008, has gone onto play in each of the 16 editions of the IPL so far. He made a move to Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in 2011, before spending the next two seasons with Mumbai Indians. He then returned to the Delhi franchise in 2014 for a mammoth amount of Rs 12.5 crore. RCB first signed Dinesh Karthik for Rs 10.5 crore in 2015, but the wicketkeeper-batter switched sides to Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017. Karthik then spent four seasons with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), whom he led to the IPL playoffs in 2018. Karthik was released by KKR ahead of IPL 2022, and RCB acquired him back for a second time for Rs 5.5 crore.

In IPL 2022, Karthik scored 330 runs from 16 matches at a strike rate of 183.33 as RCB reached the playoffs that season. That even earned him a spot in India squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia but failed to perform upto expectations as the Men in Blue bowed out in the semi-finals.

Overall, the 38-year-old has played 242 IPL matches and scored 4516 runs at an average of 25.81 and a strike rate of 132.71 till date.
