Inzamam-ul-Haq resigns as Pakistan cricket team chief selector amid conflict of interest allegations: Report

Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq has resigned as the chief selector of the Pakistan cricket team amid their disappointing performance so far in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. According to ESPNCricinfo, Inzamam decided to resign after a meeting with PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf in Lahore on Monday, during which questions of potential conflict of interest came up. Multiple media outlets in Pakistan reported that Inzamam was one of the four directors of Yazoo International Limited. Talha Rehmani is another director of the company. Rehmani is the managing director of Saya Corporation, an agency that represents cricketers like Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Afridi. There were allegations if Inzamam was a shareholder in Rehmani’s company. On Monday evening, the PCB announced that it had set up a five-member committee to investigate the conflict of interest allegations. “Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate allegations in respect of conflict of interest reported in the media pertaining to the team selection process. “The committee will submit its report and any recommendations to the PCB Management in an expeditious manner,” the board said on it’s ‘X’ handle. “I am stepping down from the post to offer the PCB the opportunity to conduct a transparent inquiry about the conflict of interest allegations raised in the media,” Inzamam said after submitting his resignation, according to ESPNcricinfo. “If the committee finds me not guilty, I will resume my role as the chief selector,” added Inzamam, who had also served as Pakistan chief selector from2016 to 2019. With just four points from six games, Pakistan are in a precarious position in the World Cup, in sixth place. The Men in Green have suffered defeats to teams including India, Australia and South Africa. Pakistan next play Bangladesh in Kolkata on Tuesday.
