'We are stuck here': Jay Shah provides update from Barbados after Team India's arrival plan gets disrupted
As promised by Jay Shah, Team India made the national flag fly high in Barbados by winning T20 World Cup 2024. PTI

Team India has been left stranded in Barbados after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 due to Hurricane Beryl which has now turned into an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 storm. Hurricane Beryl will was expected to pass by Barbados on Sunday night local time, while the Indian cricket team was to take flight on Monday morning local time for New York. However, the closure of the airport in Barbados has forced Team India and their family members to stay back at the Hilton Hotel.

As per a report, Hurricane Beryl has maximum sustained winds of 210 kmph.

The BCCI officials including General Secretary Jay Shah are also in Barbados with the team in the same hotel and they are planning to get a charter direct to Delhi but that will not be possible as long as the airport which closed down on Sunday evening does not open.

Shah, while speaking to the media, revealed that the team is “stuck” in Barbados and hence no plans have been made regarding felicitation of the team once they reach India.

“Like you we are also stuck here. After the travel plans are clear, we will think about the felicitation,” Shah told reporters in Barbados.

It has been reported that the Indian cricket team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon their arrival. Meanwhile, BCCI has also announced Rs 125 crore prize money for Team India after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.

As per the initial plan, the Men in Blue were to fly to New York and from there to Dubai before reaching India. But due to the delay, they are most likely to take a charter flight now.

The other major issue for Team India is that the Hilton Hotel is near the coast and services at the hotel have also been impacted.

“Like everywhere, services are affected at the team hotel too. The airport is shut so no clarity on departure as of now because of the extremely dangerous hurricane. The BCCI is coordinating to ensure the entire contingent reaches back home safely,” a source told CricketNext.

The whole Indian contingent including players, family members, support staff, and BCCI officials is around 70 people strong.
