India vs Zimbabwe, 5th T20I in Harare Preview: Having already clinched the series on Saturday, India will be hoping to complete a 4-1 victory when they face Zimbabwe in the fifth and final T20I in Harare on Sunday.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, will be hoping for a consolation win and end the series with a 3-2 scoreline.
India had sealed the five-match series in their favour with a dominant 10-wicket thrashing of the Sikandar Raza-led hosts after being set 153 to win, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal leading the way with an unbeaten 93 off 53 balls.
Skipper Shubman Gill also chipped in with an unbeaten 58, playing the supporting role in the mammoth opening partnership that remained unbroken till the end.
As for the bowling department, Khaleel Ahmed (2/32) and Ravi Bishnoi (0/22 from 4 overs) played a key role in ensuring India restricted Zimbabwe to a score below 160.
Zimbabwe had handed India a stunning 13-run defeat in the tour opener last Saturday, which broke the Men in Blue’s streak of 12 consecutive wins in T20Is and was also their first defeat in the shortest format this year.
India, however, bounced back with 100-run thrashing the very next day, posting 234/2 on the board before bundling the hosts out for a meagre 134.
India would then go 2-1 up with a 23-run victory in the third T20I.
Gill is leading a second-string team that comprises players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson, who were part of India’s squad for the recently-concluded T20 World Cup but were benched throughout.
The squad also had several uncapped players, with the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Tushar Deshpande, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel making their T20I debuts this week.
National Cricket Academy (NCA) Director and batting legend VVS Laxman has filled in as head coach on an interim basis for this tour.
