Having lost to New Zealand in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 opener, every match is a must-win for the Indian women’s cricket team in Group A. With tournament favourites Australia at the top of Group A and the only two teams qualifying for the semi-finals, India have no option but to beat Sri Lanka on Wednesday.
So far, India have one win and one loss. Their only win came in their last match against arch-rivals Pakistan in which the Women in Blue chased down the 106-run target in almost 19 overs, doing very little favour to their Net Run Rate (NRR).
India vs Sri Lanka: 5 things to watch out for
Nonetheless, they now face Sri Lanka with not only the aim of winning the match but also to give a boost to their NRR.
Remember, Sri Lanka defeated India by eight wickets in July in the 2024 Asia Cup final, but they are also struggling for form, having lost to Pakistan and Australia so far.
